We're just another little record company, except we're "staffed" and run by the performing musicians themselves, and, hopefully, passing the savings on to you. We also would like to serve as a free referral service for our musician friends. And, if you would, tell the folks at the included addresses and links that you found them from us.  That would be groovy.

We're back! Did you miss us? It's been a long time, but that means we have lots to tell you. We're having some problems at the new site, but we'll get it together for you soon.

We have a new band to add to the Smitty group-Evidence , the straight-ahead quintet that saxophonist Micheal Doyle started about 8 years ago. They have one recording, Untitled, on Jay-Bird Records, and their second recording is in the mastering stage at Arcadia Recording Studios and the expert hands of John Stites. Some of the tunes on this disc go the latin way with the addition of a squad of percussionists, and there's a small explosion of latin bands coming out of the Evidence son-excursion. More on this as it develops...

mind's eye also has a new disc since the site went off the air. Lucky 9 contains nine original tunes including a couple of nice ones from drummer Quincy Davis, who has moved to New York City.
Q has been playing with his brother Xavier in Tom Harrell's band, and also with pianist Benny Green. He sat in with Evidence at WGVU Jazz Night here at the BOB to the holiday delight of all, including, of course, the guys in the band- he plays SO nice. Cheers, mate! And keep on schvinging dot crazy yazz in New York!

Some of the biggest news EVER is that the Bird of Paradise Orchestra is no more! It's ceased to be! They were let go by the Bird (and if you've ever been held by the Bird...), in a move that we'll probably be able to see on the History Channel's 'History's Blunders and Mistakes', and they now have a home at the Firefly Club on Mondays. Redubbed the Paul Keller Orchestra (what else?), they will romp and rumble through their catalog of gems from most every era of jazz, led by the buoyantly boisterous bass of Mr. Keller. And originals? They've only got a stack of 'em! So go to Ann Arbor and check 'em out already!

The jazz gigs have been few of late, with everyone trying to get other gigs or teaching work. Rob Smith has the CMU jazz program going great guns, Steve Talaga is still teaching at Aquinas College in GR and Hope College in Holland, and Tom Lockwood has been teaching at Hillsdale College for almost two years. Some of the current goings-down for the Smitty guys can be found here...
