Booking Information

As far as booking gigs is concerned, we are a little limited by our individual realities. We love to play live, and, with help from our friends, we can create, or put you in touch with, a configuration of musicians and styles for just about all of your musical needs; however, at this time we can play your basic club dates only in Michigan, Northern Indiana, and Northern Ohio. However, if you have a festival or club venue, or would like to hear us live at your favorite club, we might be coaxed into some traveling, and any info you can leave us would be appreciated, and, there from, grooved upon.

Instruction/Clinics

In addition to playing music, most of us have been or are involved in teaching- Rob Smith is directing the jazz studies program at Central Michigan University, Steve Talaga teaches at Aquinas College and Hope College in west Michigan, and Tom Lockwood teaches at Hillsdale College in southern Michigan. We also have experience with private lessons, and clinics, separately or as a group (small ensemble clinics are really great--young musicians get to see the old cats at play). In addition to small and large jazz ensemble coaching, The Smitty Music guys teach the following:

Trumpet, saxophone, theory & improvisation, composition
